My name is…
David Greenwood
I am playing…
The Director. Playing sounds about right.
My first stage appearance was…
Third Outlaw in our school’s production of Two Gentlemen of Verona. Counter-intuitively, I had more to say than my fellow outlaws but it is safe to say, if you’d blinked you’d have missed it. We all have to start somewhere.
I have been involved with the Thespians since…
2013 as the Psychiatrist in a Fawlty Towers episode of the same name. Title role! I particularly enjoyed saying to James Woodley - “How often do you manage it?”
Favourite part (before this one)…
Tough question! Usually the one I happen to be doing at the time. But I suppose it has to be Higgins in Players’ production of “My Fair Lady”. But the murderous Judge in “And Then There Were None”, Danforth in “The Crucible”, Malvolio in “Twelfth Night” and Frank in “84 Charing Cross Road” were all great to do. Also, small but impactful role in “Ladies Day”, the ghost lover of Pearl, played by my wife, who makes it all turn out ok in the end. That holds a lot of memories.
Most interesting place I’ve performed at…
Rather boring. Singing in the Albert Hall was quite memorable.
One thing you’d never guess about me...
I have a love child in Venezuela and I also keep piranhas in the bath.
About my character…
Very sweet-natured on the whole! On the “Hay Fever”characters, I am thrilled by how all the cast members are now running with their parts and are taking ownership. That is as it should be. It’s about them, not me.
Haslemere Thespians will be presenting Hay Fever by Noel Coward at Haslemere Hall on Thursday 5, Friday 6 and Saturday 7 October at 7:30 pm. To get your tickets call Haslemere Hall Box Office on 01428 642161 or click the following link https://www.haslemerehall.co.uk/theatre/hay-fever/
