My name is…
Richard Weller
I am playing…
David Bliss
My first stage appearance was…
Aged six in Ali Baba & the Forty Thieves in a cast that included my Mum, Dad, Sister, Uncle and future Step Mother and Step Sister but that’s another story. My very first line was “I am here to serve Kassim.”
I have been involved with the Thespians since…
The Crucible in 2014. I was drafted into a minor role relatively late in the day and spent most of my time enjoying the bravura performances going on around me.
Favourite part (before this one)…
Phileas Fogg in our most recent production Around the World in Eighty Days was great – an ice-cold pedant with OCD issues who finds the love of a good woman – what’s not to like? However, King Charles II in Nell Gwynn gave me a grandstand seat to enjoy Naomi Robertson’s amazing performance in the title role so that gets my vote.
Most interesting place I’ve performed at…
In my early twenties I was invited to be part of a group performing London Assurance at the Minack Theatre in Cornwall, an extraordinary place carved out of the rocks overlooking the sea. And it didn’t rain. Much.
One thing you’d never guess about me…
When hitch hiking around New Zealand in the 1980’s, I inadvertently caused two car drivers to have a fight over who was going to pick me up.
About my character…
David Bliss is an eccentric oddball who seemingly cares very little about what people think of him or anything else for that matter. Why did they cast me?
